I am Cyril the guy wearing all year round (or a least trying) flip-flops behind Flip Flop Flap. Originally from France, I have been living for a while in New Zealand and Australia.
Now based at the wonderful Studio Pansa in Amsterdam - where I have the pleasure to teach twice a week - I seek to produce high-quality ceramic pieces embodying craftsmanship and individuality but also using as much as possible recycled materials. I found turning waste into a beautiful object extremely satisfying and I hope you will as well through my pieces.
The process of matching - or in some cases juxtaposing - bodies of clay, shapes, textures and colors is essential for me to create unique pieces with their own personalities. Pieces displayed here are all unique and based on various sources of inspiration ranging from natural elements, feelings, inspiring objects but also close family members or friends.
I got into ceramics quite late alongside working as a sustainability engineer for buildings. Although quite different, I like to think this lateral experience developed my interest for materials and their environmental impact. Working with clay is for me a great way to temporary step out of this over-regulated and standard based industry.
